Hampi (Hampe in kannada) is situated on the banks of the Tungabhadra river. Hampi is located at a distance of 75 km from Bellary, 13 km from Hospet and 353 km from Bangalore. Hampi is located within the ruins of Vijayanagara, once the flourishing capital of the Vijayanagar Empire. Hampi is also called "The City of Ruins". The Vijayanagara ruins are listed as the Group of Monuments at Hampi as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Other main attractions of hampi are the temple complex of Lord Virupaksha, Ugra Narasimha, Matanga Hill, Achyutharaya Temple, Mahanavami Dibba, Kadanda Rama Temple, Yantrodharaka Anjaneyaswamy Temple, Chakrathirtha, Hazaara Rama Temple and the Vittal Temple complex.
The annual Hampi Festival or Hampe Utsava - organized by the Government of Karnataka is held on 3rd, 4th and 5th of November every year.
